We got 12 new and slightly used chickens today. 11 laying hens, and one big Cuckoo Marans rooster. :)
We got them from some friends of ours, who decided to quit chickens for a while, and take a break. They actually got several of their birds around the time we got some of ours, we shared McMurrary Hatchery orders, you see.
Me and Quinn got them moved out into a nice large pen on grass with a tub of water and a roost to sit on. Tonight, we'll move them into the Big Coop, and they'll get out in the lot with the rest of the chickens in the morning.
And soon as we get the ducklings out and running, and the standard chicks in the Big Coop with the big chickens, I'll be catch our cuckoo marans (hatchery quality) hens, and that rooster, and sticking them in a refined pen for breeding purposes. That rooster---well, he's big. He'll be able to the cover the ladies without any issue, and I'd love to be able to hatch some of those dark eggs. -
Pictures coming soon!
