Farm Day at the preschool went really well today; we had three different age groups come in, each with two classes, so by the end of it the critters were exhausted, but the kids loved it, the crowd favorites were Midnight the bunny and Leia the goat, who many kids thought was a sheep, or a dog. :)
Snowy the rooster ended up crowing with the last age group, and they loved that, and all the while through Catherine quacked, which they all thought was very funny.
I tell you though, I promptly came home and washed by hands---they were so many kids with colds there....
We took the hens and the rooster, the bunny the duck and the goat around a few times for everybody to pet, and ask questions with a lot of enthusiasm; it went great though, and I enjoyed it.
One little girl starting kinda tugging at Snowy comb, and asked what it was.
"It's his comb," I explained, and was about to tell her how roosters would grow larger combs, and hens would have smaller ones when she stopped me and asked, "to brush his feathers?"
I was silent for a second, and then nodded, smiling, "yup."
She liked my cowboy hat, also.
Two of the older classes made us thank you cards, and one class wrote down their names, and which animal they liked best. Two little boys said, 'the snake.'
We didn't bring a snake, but apparently, it was still the best part, lol.
Leia got to feast on grain, bread, and the grass outside. She had a great time, and peed and pooped once in the building, which all the kids thought was hilarious---expect for one real shy little girl, who looked stunned.
On the way home (Leia sat in my lap riding shotgun there and back,) Mom made the startling realization that it was Leia that smelled so bad to her; Leia kept coughing up her cud to chew again, and it has a rather strong smell (though I don't mind it,) and Mom kept waving her hands around and opening, then closing the window, scolding Leia. Lol. It was amusing.
I'll tell you, though, my thighs and and shoulders are stiff from carrying Leia back and forth, and squatting down, and standing up, and squatting down, and standing over...over and over again so the kids could pet her. She wouldn't walk where you wanted her to inside the building, and so I did a lot of carrying her, lol. She gets real heavy after hauling her around for a while. :) Lol. But she's not fat, just healthy.
