We now have TWO Sun Parakeets, also called Sun Conures.
They are small parrots from South America, are endangered, and cost about 800 to 100 dollars in a store.
They are said to be some of the most intelligent parrots, though they don't talk much.
They are quite loud for their size, and are very pretty.
(I haven't uploaded pictures yet, but I will soon!)
I was upstairs bathing Zeb and Rose while Quinn went downstairs to do something.... And I heard a lot of yelling. Then suddenly, Dad calls me down to come take some pictures with Mom's camera, there are parrots in our backyard.
So I'm thinking, "What?" I run downstairs while Quinn goes to take over bath-time; and I look outside, sure enough, on a tall tree in our backyard, are two yellow/orange/blue/green parrots.
I get the camera and start snapping away -though the pictures all seemed blurry -then, they fly onto our back deck, standing on the rails, staring at us!
I was taking more pictures, then the cats noticed -and you know them birds almost became supper.
We got the cats inside, while the birds flew into another tree. They swirled around a bit, flying onto our jungle-gym, etc. Then they came back onto our porch.
They were squawking and chattering, then they looked and flew down to the ground and just hopped around. Dad tossed some feed down there, and they pecked around a bit, not really going anywhere.
My dad walks down there with more seed and feeds them right out of his hand! Then he grabs them both, sticks them in Sandy's old cage -and Ta-da! We now have two endangered parrots.
As soon as Dad caught them I went to find out what type they were: Sun Parakeets.
We told my Mom, who was out eating dinner with some friends, and she went to buy some feed at the pet-store.
Anyway.
They are eating and drinking fine; they seem to be a little mad at us...one of them squeals at us if we get close to the cage....
We are trying to find their owners, because they seem fairly tame, and are not wild around here. Though I have seen them at the pet-store before.
800 dollars to 1000. Firm.
Just a little bag of feed for them was 20 bucks.
That's a lot of money in bird!
I will uplaod pictures soon, but here is one from the internet, so you get the idea of what they look like:
